Excursions

All excursions are optional and are for an additional fee and require a minimal enrollment per activity by April 1 to avoid cancellation). Register at the same site as for the conference:

                                                       Thursday May 7: Rehearsal for Mormon Tabernacle Choir
                                                                              and Temple Square Orchestra
                                                                                                         Cost: $20 

Temple Square in Salt Lake City is one of the most visited tourist sites in Utah, and on Thursday evenings the Mormon Tabernacle Choir holds rehearsals open to the public. This excursion will combine a visit to Temple Square with attendance at the choir rehearsal.
 
Leaving from Provo: If you are already in Provo for the pre-conference workshops, we will meet at the Provo Marriott and travel to and from Temple Square in vans. Departure from Provo at 6:15pm. Depart Salt Lake City by 9:15pm, arriving in Provo shortly after 10pm.
 
Leaving from Salt Lake International Airport: If you end up flying into Salt Lake City on Thursday and want to join us, you can take the Trax Green Line from the airport to Temple Square. Get off at the “Temple Square” stop and proceed with your luggage to the Tabernacle for the rehearsal.  If you wish to take this short detour, the GLAC team will organize transit for you from Temple Square down to the Provo Marriott afterward. At the end of the rehearsal, we will meet just outside of the Tabernacle on Temple Square and drive you back to Provo.

                                                               Sunday May 10: Music and the Spoken Word
                                                                                                         Cost: $20 

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, often referred to as America's choir, has been broadcasting a weekly non-denominational program, “Music and the Spoken Word,” for over 85 years. If you would like to attend their Sunday morning performance, we will meet at the Provo Marriott Sunday Morning (around 7:30) and drive in vans to the performance. Afterwards, we will drive to Salt Lake City International Airport (leaving Temple Square by 10:30, arriving by 11am) for those who need to catch planes. The vans will then return to Provo, for anyone who wishes.   


                                                             Sunday May 10: Moab and Arches National Park
                                                                                                        Cost: $110 

A full day trip will take participants to world famous Moab located in Southern Utah to visit the red rock, desert and natural arches. The trip will cover transportation, snacks, a boxed lunch, entrance into Arches National Park and bottled water. In addition to seeing the sites by driving through the park, participants will take easy hikes to explore some of the beautiful rock formations which are found in abundance in this area.

Departure will be at 6am returning to Provo later that evening (departures from Salt Lake City are not advised for Sunday night). Requires sturdy shoes, sun screen, and layered clothing.
